We ask that you do both! Per the requirements for the species of nematodes used in our formula, it is advised to thoroughly water your lawn prior to our arrival to ensure they reach deep within the soil. It is also advised to keep the soil moist after the application for 1-2 weeks. This ensures the nematodes’ efficacy.
Yes! The species of nematodes we use are cold-tolerant and can withstand temperatures as cold as 8℉. They also have the ability to remain dormant in freezing temperatures and re-activate once the soil warms up.
Our beetlejuice formula contains 2 species of beneficial nematodes that use a “seek and destroy” method of attack. Once applied, these nematodes seek Japanese beetle grubs that are closest to the surface of the soil and enter through their bodies via body cavities. There, the nematode releases a bacteria that kills the Japanese beetle grub from the inside. The nematode will reproduce inside the grub’s body, leave through a body cavity, and invade another grub nearby. And the process continues until there is a significant decrease in the prevalence of Japanese beetles.
We recommend 2 applications per year. These can be done in the spring, summer, or fall. This is when the Japanese beetle grubs are closest to the surface of the soil and when they begin to emerge. We are happy to do as many or as little applications as you need, depending upon the prevalence of Japanese beetles on your property!
